Melissa & Chad’s multi-day Crested Butte elopement

Day 1 | Exploring Crested Butte’s wildflower locations

Melissa and Chad’s adventure began at sunrise at Emerald Lake, where they shared a beautiful first look in their wedding attire.

After capturing stunning lake portraits, we set off on off-road mountain trails, discovering a peaceful riverside picnic spot. There, they enjoyed their favorite drink—whiskey—and dipped their feet in the ice-cold mountain water.

The journey continued as we found a secluded wildflower field, perfect for capturing more romantic moments. After a midday break, we met up before sunset at Snodgrass Mountain, where Melissa and Chad had wedding portraits surrounded by vibrant wildflowers.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, horses wandered along the trails, making for an unforgettable ending to the day.

Day 2 | A scenic lake ceremony with friends & family

On day two, we met at their Airbnb, where Melissa and Chad got ready for their intimate ceremony. Before heading out, Melissa shared an emotional first look with her dad.

Their ceremony took place at a alpine lake, accessible via a scenic mountain pass drive. With family and friends as their witnesses, Melissa and Chad exchanged heartfelt vows in a breathtaking setting.

To celebrate, they shared a whiskey toast, marking the perfect end to their unforgettable Crested Butte elopement.

How to elope in Crested Butte

The best time to get married in Crested Butte

Crested Butte is a breathtaking wedding destination that transforms with each season, offering unique landscapes and experiences. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the best times to say “I do” in this stunning mountain town:

Summer (June – August):

Summer in Crested Butte is famous for its lush meadows bursting with wildflowers, making it a dream setting for nature-loving couples. The warm temperatures (ranging from the 60s to 80s °F) and long daylight hours create the perfect conditions for hiking, alpine lakeside ceremonies, and adventurous elopements. Popular trails and scenic overlooks are at their peak beauty, though summer also brings more visitors, so planning for sunrise or weekday weddings can help avoid crowds.

Fall (September – October):

Autumn in Crested Butte is a magical time for weddings, with the landscape turning into a sea of golden aspens. The cool, crisp air and fewer tourists make for a peaceful, intimate experience. September still offers mild weather, while October brings a slight chill—ideal for cozy celebrations. Mountain passes and hiking trails provide stunning backdrops, making fall one of the most photogenic times of the year.

Winter (November – March):

For couples dreaming of a winter wonderland wedding, Crested Butte delivers with its snow-covered peaks, charming cabins, and cozy alpine ambiance. Temperatures can drop below freezing, but the beauty of snow-draped forests and ski-in ceremonies make it an unforgettable season for elopements. Winter weddings are perfect for those who love skiing, snowshoeing, or simply enjoying a candlelit evening by the fire.

Spring (April – May):

Spring in Crested Butte is a quieter season as the snow melts and the landscape begins to awaken. While some higher-elevation trails remain covered in snow, the lower valleys start to show fresh greenery and rushing waterfalls. This transitional period offers peaceful surroundings and fewer crowds, making it a great option for couples seeking a more private and serene wedding experience.
