Have you ever found yourselves thinking…

I want to plan a wedding day that actually feels like us.

Maybe you are realizing:

  • We want a stress-free, in the moment wedding experience where we get to focus on each other.
  • We want to plan intentional and meaningful activities and create a day that is totally unique to us and our relationship.
  • Our dream is to marry in a place that feels wild, meaningful, and deeply connected to the natural world, a space that feels like us.

Then you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be

Your elopement deserves to feel like an experience you’ll never stop talking about.

As your Mount Rainier elopement photographers, we help you create a day that feels intentional from beginning to end. From finding breathtaking locations and planning meaningful activities to documenting every emotional, adventure-filled moment, we’re here to help you build a wedding experience that feels effortless, unforgettable, and entirely your own.

Why Choose an Elopement or Micro Wedding in Mount Rainier?

Your wedding day doesn’t have to fit into someone else’s idea of what it should be, it can simply reflect who you are together.

Elopements and micro weddings aren’t about running away from tradition, it’s about running toward a day that feels true to you.

Imagine your Mount Rainier wedding day feeling like this…

A wedding day that unfolds slowly.

Instead of squeezing everything into one hectic timeline, imagine turning your wedding into a multi-day experience.

One day spent exploring somewhere breathtaking together. Another celebrating with your favorite people around good food, stories, and unforgettable moments.

More time.
Less pressure.
Memories that don’t feel rushed.

A day built around the moments you actually love.

Maybe that looks like sharing coffee in a quiet cabin in Packwood, hiking to your ceremony location, canoeing across an alpine lake, or watching the sunset after reading your vows.

Your wedding doesn’t have to follow a template, it can reflect your relationship, your pace, and the things that matter most to you.

An experience that feels deeply personal.

From hiking to Fremont Lookout and off-roading in Greenwater to slow picnics, board games with loved ones, or dancing under the stars, your wedding day can feel less like a performance and more like an experience you’ll never want to end.

Because the best moments are usually the ones that feel honest, unplanned, and completely your own.

Why Elope in Mount Rainier National Park?

There’s a reason Mount Rainier is one of Washington’s most iconic elopement destinations. As your Mount Rainier elopement photographer, we’ve explored every hidden trail and scenic overlook — from wildflower meadows to fog-draped forests — and we can confidently say it’s one of the most breathtaking places to say your vows.

Not sure where to start? Our how to elope guide walks you through every step.

1. Mountain Views

Mount Rainier offers awe-inspiring mountain views that captivate visitors with its majestic presence and towering snow-capped peak. Whether admired from afar or experienced up close on its trails, the mountain’s grandeur never fails to leave a lasting impression on all who behold it.

3. Wildflower Meadows

Mount Rainier’s wildflower meadows offer a vibrant display of color and fragrance during the summer months. Blanketing the alpine slopes, these meadows showcase a dazzling array of flowers, including lupine, Indian paintbrush, and mountain daisies.

2. Romantic Aframe Cabins

Nestled amidst the serene wilderness of Mount Rainier, the A-frame cabins offer cozy and charming accommodation for nature enthusiasts. With their distinctive triangular shape and rustic charm, these cabins provide a unique and intimate retreat for couples or small families.

4. Open Year-round

Mount Rainier’s beauty knows no season. Whether you choose to wed amidst wildflowers in the summer, under colorful foliage in the fall, or against a snowy backdrop in the winter, each season offers its own unique charm and beauty.

5. Fall Colors

As autumn arrives at Mount Rainier, the landscape transforms into a breathtaking canvas of vibrant fall colors. The hillsides come alive with hues of gold, red, and orange as the foliage of deciduous trees paints the mountainside in a stunning display of seasonal beauty.

Eloping in Mount Rainier National Park is an unforgettable experience, but to make it legally official, you’ll need to follow a few key steps. Here’s everything you need to know to legally get married at Mount Rainier:

1. Obtain a Washington State Marriage License
To get legally married at Mount Rainier, you must first obtain a Washington State marriage license. Here’s how:

Where to Apply: You can obtain a license from any county clerk’s office in Washington State—it doesn’t have to be in the county where you’re getting married. Popular choices for Mount Rainier elopements include Pierce County or King County.

Waiting Period: Washington has a three-day waiting period, meaning you must get your license at least three full days before your ceremony.

Expiration: The license is valid for 60 days from the date of issue.

Cost: Fees vary by county but typically range from $60 to $80.

No Residency Requirement: You don’t have to be a Washington resident to apply.

ID Requirements: Both partners must provide valid government-issued photo IDs.

Application Process: Some counties allow you to apply online, but you’ll usually need to pick up the license in person.

2. Secure a Special Use Permit from the National Park
Because Mount Rainier is a national park, you need a Special Use Permit to hold a wedding ceremony. Here’s how:
Application Fee: The permit costs $250.

How to Apply: Fill out the Special Use Permit application from the National Park Service (NPS) website and submit it at least four weeks in advance.

Guest Limits: Small elopements are easier to approve, but larger gatherings may require additional permissions and considerations.

Restricted Locations: Some areas may have seasonal closures or restrictions, so it’s best to check with the park rangers for updates.

3. Choose an Officiant
Washington State requires a licensed officiant to perform the ceremony. You have a few options:
Hire a professional officiant who is legally recognized in Washington.

Have a friend or family member officiate if they are ordained online (Washington recognizes online ordinations).
If you’re planning a private vow exchange without an officiant, you’ll still need to sign the legal paperwork separately with an officiant to make it official.

4. Have at Least Two Witnesses
Washington State requires two witnesses to sign your marriage license.
If you’re eloping alone, don’t worry! Many elopement photographers (including us) or even friendly hikers you meet on the trail can serve as witnesses.

5. File Your Marriage License
After your ceremony, your officiant must sign and return the completed marriage license to the county where you obtained it. Once filed, you can request certified copies for your records.

Mount Rainier National Park is accessible by car, with several main entrances: Nisqually (SW, year-round access), Stevens Canyon (SE, summer only), White River/Sunrise (NE, summer only), and Carbon River (NW, limited vehicle access). The closest major airport is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), about a 2-hour drive to the park. Renting a car is the best way to explore, as there’s no public transportation into the park. Always check road conditions, especially in winter!

The best time to elope in Mount Rainier National Park depends on the experience you want!

  • Wildflower Season (Late July – Early August) – This is the most popular time for elopements, with stunning meadows filled with vibrant lupines, paintbrush, and avalanche lilies. Expect warmer weather and clear mountain views.
  • Fall Colors (Mid-September – Early October)red huckleberry bushes, and crisp airmake fall a magical time to elope, with fewer crowds and stunning autumn landscapes.
  • Winter (November – May) – The park becomes a snow-covered wonderland, but accessibility is limited. Many roads, including those to popular spots like Paradise and Sunrise, close due to heavy snowfall.

For the best balance of accessibility, mild weather, and breathtaking scenery, late summer and early fall are ideal times to elope in Mount Rainier! For more info about eloping in Mount Rainier, check our Mount Rainier Elopement Guide
